Olde Beau Community Involvement

Many Olde Beau residents are actively involved in a wide variety of community volunteer projects including:

Holiday Hens for The Alleghany County Solid Rock Food Closet

Four years ago several people from the Olde Beau community started a group called “Friends of Alleghany” with the expressed purpose of providing holiday meals for the less fortunate.  The last three years we have supplied 400 Hens each year to the Solid Rock Food Closet for Thanksgiving meals.  This year we will supply 800 hens to be used for both Thanksgiving and Christmas meals.  This has been made possible mainly because of the generous donations from people in the Olde Beau community, but also with some contributions coming from other interested parties.

Sparta Kids Triathlon

The residents of Olde Beau contribute their time and energy to the Sparta Kids Triathlon on an annual basis. The Sparta Kids’ Triathlon was created to encourage local youth to HAVE FUN STAYING ACTIVE.  By focusing on swim, bike, run, the hope is that participants will build lifelong healthy habits of setting goals for physical achievement. It is a fun event for all involved !

Funds raised from this event are used to support youth activities and programs coordinated and/or sponsored the Alleghany Wellness Center (AWCI).  AWCI is a community supported nonprofit agency whose mission is to provide the people of Alleghany County and the surrounding areas the opportunity to achieve and maintain healthy lifestyle through health education, medically supervised programs and facilities for physical activity and recreation.

Save-A-Pet Foundation of Alleghany

The Save-a-Pet Foundation helps to aid in the rescue and rehabilitation of abused and abandoned animals in Alleghany County, conducts adoption events and fundraisers, promotes the importance of spaying/neutering, and campaigns for free/low cost spay/neuter clinics.  Olde Beau residents, Claudia and Donn S. volunteer at pet adoption events and donate to the foundation.  They encourage their neighbors to learn more about the needs of homeless pets in Alleghany County by checking out the website below.

Serve as a guardian ad litem (GAL) volunteer for Alleghany County.  In partnership with an attorney, Olde Beau resident Cathy A. advocates in court for abused and neglected children who have been placed in foster care.  As a GAL, she makes recommendations to the judge as to what course of action is in the best interest of each child assigned to her.
